Le bâtiment actuel de la gare de Colmar date de 1907, une époque où l'Alsace-Lorraine était annexée à l'Empire allemand avec des chemins de fer gérés par la Direction générale impériale des chemins de fer d'Alsace-Lorraine. Inspirée des plans de la gare centrale de Gdansk, ville polonaise annexée à la Prusse de 1815 à 1919, elle est considérée comme « un des fleurons de l'architecture allemande des années 1900 », comme les gares de Metz et de Strasbourg. Le style de la gare est caractéristique des mélanges alors en vogue : architecture d'Europe centrale, néo-gothique et néo-renaissance.

The present building of Colmar train station in 1907, a time when Alsace-Lorraine was annexed to the German Empire Railway managed by the Imperial General Directorate of Railways of Alsace-Lorraine. Inspired plans of Gdansk Central Station, Polish city annexed to Prussia from 1815 to 1919, is considered "one of the jewels of German architecture of the 1900s" as the stations of Metz and Strasbourg. The style is characteristic of the station blends then in vogue : Central European architecture, neo-gothic and neo- renaissance.
