Everyone loves a mystery, most of the time. But this mysterious dedicated bench is a puzzler that I wish could be solved. Like most of the many dedicated benches in this cemetery, there is no inscription on the top of the seat block (where you place your posterior), but only on the side. The simple inscription here is:
In Memory of Pete. Love, Geraldine
Of the 869 FindAGrave records for this cemetery (at the time of this posting) there was only one person whose name or nickname was Pete, and he,
Peter Isaac Hagler (1836 to 1919) died way too many years ago to be remembered by one of these modern benches, and his wife died before him in 1915.
The only Geraldine (or Gerry or the like) listed in this cemetery, Geraldine Ann Brown Shinn (1947 to 2013), was married to a Charles Oliver Shinn (1941 to 2007) who did not seem to go by a nickname of Pete (or did he?). Perhaps the Geraldine who dedicated this bench still lives at the time of this waymark. But then who is Pete? (Cue music from The Twilight Zone.)
If the visitor has any information to contribute toward the solution of this mystery, by all means note it in the waymark or make an Edit Suggestion and I will be happy to update it, for Pete's sake!
