"Raymond August "Mick" Layer, 77, of Bellflower died Dec. 21, 2007, at home. He was born Feb. 5, 1930, to Albert "Cotton" and Sarah F. (Buechele) Layer near High Hill.
Mr. Layer was a welder for Binkley Manufacturing in Warrenton before retiring in 1992. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He served as mayor of Bellflower, a Bellflower alderman from 1954-2001 and president of the Bellflower Cemetery Association.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in High Hill and served on the church council. He also served Bellflower Presbyterian Church and was a member of Liege/Bellflower Planned Progress Club, Bellflower Men's Club, Lions Club, Community Club, Bellflower Volunteer Fire Department, Montgomery County Old Threshers Association, Bellflower Christian Church Preservation Committee, One-Room School Committee, Bellflower School Reunion Committee and the Optimist Club.
He is survived by two daughters, Jeanne (Clark) See and Amy (Clark) Worsham; one son, Frank L. Clark; two brothers, Robert W. "Bob" and Melvin P. "Gin"; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Layer; his parents; and one brother, Ralph D. "John."
Services were Dec. 28 at St. John's United Church of Christ in High Hill with burial in Bellflower Cemetery." ~ Suburban Journal, Dec. 30, 2007
