The Winfield Community Garden is located at 11187 Bottom Wood Lake Rd, on land provided by Paul and Judy Shoemaker of Nurturing Nature Organics. This garden was funded by the Lake Country Rotary Club and has 40 large plots of varying sizes. Shed, tools, water access and compost bins are available. In the fall of 2010, artwork designed by Ed Goodon with the assistance of clients from KDSCL (Kelowna and District Society for Community Living) was installed at the site. It was supported through a Central Okanagan Foundation grant.
Community gardening is an activity for persons of all ages and abilities. Gardeners have access to water, compost bins, and tools at each gardening site and are encouraged to grow vegetables and flowering plants. It is each gardener’s responsibility to maintain their plot and surrounding areas using sustainable methods. The use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers is not allowed. Community activities and work bees are an integral part of each garden, providing opportunities for fun and community building. The Central Okanagan Community Gardens Society believes “Gardens Grow Healthy Communities.”
