Audrey Munson started life in Mexico, New York, but moved to Rhode Island with her Mother upon her parents divorce. Her beauty was quickly noticed and she became a model for sculptors and artists from all over. She posed for over 50 statues and monuments, most still on display to this day, many located in New York City. She also posed for the artists responsible for the images on the Standing Liberty quarter and the Mercury dime. She was also the first woman to pose nude in a silent film, and starred in several other silent films as well. When her modelling career started to fade, she delved in fashion for a time, but not successfully. In 1922, she attempted suicide, but survived. In 1931, her Mother had her committed to an insane asylum, where she lived the rest of her life. She passed away at the age of 104, on Feb. 20, 1996.
