NY0546 - USC&GS&SS 'G 277' BM - Klamath County, OR - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey and State Survey benchmark from 1934 in good condition. The datasheet info is adequate for station recovery with the exception that the Chiloquin railroad station no longer exists and this road is still Williamson River Road. The pine tree mentioned in the datasheet is still there and is actually a split pine (two trunks). The letters 'BM' painted on the tree were worn off long ago. The original witness post was still standing, along with a newer metal witness post on the other side of the benchmark. This benchmark is also listed on a topography map as 'BM 4269'. My posted coordinates should place you very close to this mark.

DESCRIBED BY OREGON GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 6.0 MI NE FROM CHILOQUIN. ABOUT 6.0 MILES NORTHEAST ALONG THE SPRAGUE RIVER ROAD FROM THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC CO. RAILROAD STATION AT CHILOQUIN, KLAMATH COUNTY, ON A SHORT TANGENT, 51 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD, 26 FEET EAST OF A PINE TREE MARKED BY THE PAINTED LETTERS B.M., ABOUT 4 FEET HIGHER THAN THE ROAD, AND 2 FEET WEST OF A WHITE WOODEN WITNESS POST. A STATE SURVEY STANDARD DISK, STAMPED 4268 G 277 1934 AND SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST ABOUT FLUSH WITH THE GROUND.
