Na kvádrovém svetlém kamenném podstavci je pískovcová portrétní busta v mírne nadživotní velikosti; na podstavci je rytý nápis:
"Jan Amos
Komenský"
Autorem je Prof. Vincenc Makovský (1900-1966) – akademický sochar,
designér a vysokoškolský profesor, rodák z Nového Mesta na Morave,
žil od roku 1945 až do své smrti v Obranech.
Jan Amos Komenský, latinsky Iohannes Amos Comenius, nemecky Johann Amos Comenius (28. brezna 1592 jihovýchodní Morava – 15. listopadu 1670 Amsterdam, Spojené provincie nizozemské) byl poslední biskup Jednoty bratrské a jeden z nejvetších ceských myslitelu, filosofu a spisovatelu. Behem svého života si získal renomé predevším jako pedagog, resp. teoretik pedagogiky a autor mnoha spisu z tohoto oboru. Byl jediným tvurcem originální, filosoficky ukotvené pedagogické soustavy v ceských zemích, zabýval se všeobecnou teorií výchovy, didaktikou, vytvoril speciální metodiku výuky jazyku a sám sepisoval originální ucebnice. Už za Komenského života si získaly mimorádnou oblibu jeho jazykové prírucky Janua linguarum reserata (Dvére jazyku otevrené, známé jako Brána jazyku otevrená) a Orbis sensualium pictus (Svet v obrazech). Komenský je považován za zakladatele moderní pedagogiky a vysloužil si prízvisko Ucitel národu.
Literární odkaz Jana Amose Komenského, který byl coby nekatolík nucen od roku 1628 pusobit v exilu, je velmi obsáhlý a ruznorodý. Psal latinsky i bohatou a pusobivou ceštinou. Tvoril spisy encyklopedické a jeho ideálem byla pansofie (vševeda), objímající veškeré tehdejší vedení, zanechal však také díla teologická i teosofická, hymnologická i hymnografická ci všenápravná (výchovná, ale presahující rámec didaktiky). Do obecného povedomí se zapsal také jako autor nejslavnejšího cesky psaného díla 17. století s názvem Labyrint sveta a ráj srdce.

During his lifetime he gained renown primarily as an educator, respectively. education theorist and author of numerous writings in this field. Was the sole creator of the original, philosophically anchored educational system in the Czech Republic, dealt with the general theory of education, didactics, she developed a specific methodology for language teaching and he was writing the original book. Already in Comenius of life gained extraordinary popularity of his language manuals Janua linguarum reserata (Doorway to Languages open, known as the Gate of Languages Unlocked) and sensualium Orbis Pictus (World in Pictures). Comenius is considered the founder of modern pedagogy and earned the nickname teacher of nations.
The literary legacy of Comenius, who was forced as a non-Catholic from 1628 to operate in exile, is very extensive and diverse. He wrote in Latin and rich and impressive Czech. Formed encyclopedic writings and his ideal was Pansofy (Wise), then embracing all knowledge, but also left works as Theosophical theology, (educational, but above and beyond didactics). The general consciousness enrolled as the most famous Czech writer of the written works of the 17th century titled Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart.
