This bust located in the lobby of the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego's Balboa park, depicts William Shakespeare with his face turned to the right. The piece appears (probably intentionally) unfinished with much of the scalp missing. The life-sized figure wears a garment with large and flowing collars and folds. The artist is Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887). A placard indicates that the piece was saved from the 1978 fire that destroyed the original Theatre in San Diego. It was gifted to the Theatre in 1949.
