National Forest land, separate from the National Park that adjoins it. On the western slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in the southern end of the state. It includes Sequoia National Monument and Sequoia / Kings National Park.

National Get Outdoors Day allowed free entry/ no fee On June 11. (date may vary in other years). The Sequoia National Forest encompasses 1.3 million acres, ranging in elevation from 900 feet in the foothills to 13,986 foot mountains.
Ranges from Kings Canyon, Hume Lake to Lake Isabelle.
U S Dept of Agriculture is the oversight for the Forest Service.
It is on Facebook, You Tube, and Twitter.
There are islands of private property within the National Forest lands. Montecito resort is such.

The Pacific Crest Trail passes through here; also the John Muir Trail (further east.


What points of interest are there?:
there are vistas along the highway, several lakes, organization summer camps.


What activities are available?:
Montecito offers summer and winter activities. Hume Lake is popular for boating.


List of known hazards (cliffs, snakes, poison plants, etc.):
potential for forest fire, bears & critters, hypothermia, ground that has been burned is often fragile and hazardous to hikers - holes where one can break bones in a fall. One would expect any dogs to be on leash! Dogs are not allowed on National Park trails.

fees are required for camping, not day use. Bears are protected here. Trail registers are for hiker safety. Entry is limited in Wilderness areas. So many in, so many out.
