from Aspirebridge.com (Winter 2012, pg 41)
The Place:
"State Highway 4 over South Canadian River between Mustang and Tuttle. This 1751-ft-long, precast, pre-stressed concrete bulb-tee structure has twelve 146-ft-long spans, the longest precast concrete spans in the state."
The Person:
Tim Pope entered politics in 1988 with a successful bid for Oklahoma State House of Representatives, District 98. After serving 14 years in the House, he made unsuccessful attempts at the US Senate and Oklahoma Commissioner of Labor. Pope represented Mustang in the state House for 14 years and served on the transportation committee and appropriations subcommittee for judiciary and public safety. He died Feb 14, 2010.
The State Highway 4 bridge over the South Canadian River is one of the most visible improvements to the community Pope played a central role in achieving. He had said it took more than 12 years of his legislative service to guide the project to fruition and called it his “personal goal.”
