Since 1999, the "sun wheel" rotates on the "black side" of the coking plant with its 14 gondolas on Saturdays and Sundays between May and October. Experience a journey of fascinating contradictions: deep inside it goes into the interior of the cut coke oven battery 9 through the formerly 1,000 degrees hot ovens and high up in the sky over Zollverein. The "sun wheel" is a hub-less ferris wheel designed by the architect Prof. Jürg Steiner (Berlin). Who dares a ride will be rewarded with deep insights into the heart of the coking plant and a unique view over the Zollverein World Heritage Site and the city of Essen. Rare insights and overviews inclusive.
