Passage symbolizes Hawaii's transsition into the future. Represented in the dark surfaces of the arch are the challenges we face. On the other side, the polished surface signifies our reaction to these challenges after they have been met.
Mamoru Sato was born in El Paso, Texas in 1937 and has lived in Hawaii since 1965.
