Only slightly downstream from the Old Geestebrücke (EN: Old Geeste bridge), the Kennedy Bridge was built in 1960. As a leaf bascule bridge with six lanes, it relieves the Old Geeste bridge (and downtown). With their bright drive-through width of 24 m, it allows the waterway to the now disused shipyards on the Geeste and the Elbe-Weser waterway. The bridge is 28.4 meters wide. The bridge flap is 29.3 m long and can be up to 9 Beaufort folded by machine. After the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, the bridge received its name.
