These estate houses (or former estate cottages) were built thanks to Henry Stone, Lord of the Manor of Skellingthorpe (
visit link) , who is buried in the churchyard.
Henry Stone died in 1693. In his will he gave his Manor and land to Christ's Hospital, London (
visit link) . On the land they built cottages, a school and the pub.
In 1914 Christ's Hospital sold off by Auction all their properties in the Parish.
This is the "Emblem of Christ's Hospital College, Horsham, West Sussex, an English co-educational independent day and boarding school with Royal Charter located in the Sussex countryside, England which follows much of the 'public schools' tradition. It is a charity school, originally founded in the 16th century in Greyfriars, London and Hertford."
