Recovered in good condition as described in the NGS datasheet with the exception that Grass Lake railroad station no longer exists. This BM is also listed on a topography map as 'BM Herd Azimuth 4854'. The Herd Azimuth Mark is part of the HERD BM series on top of Herd Peak: (visit link)

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1954 2.1 MI S FROM GRASS LAKE. 2.1 MILES SOUTH ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 97 FROM THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY RAILROAD STATION AT GRASS LAKE, AT THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF A CUT, IN THE TOP OF A SMALL OUTCROP, 58.3 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 42.0 FEET EAST OF A FENCE, 4.6 FEET SOUTH OF A WITNESS POST, 4 FEET HIGHER THAN THE HIGHWAY, AND PROJECTING 0.3 FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND. NOTE-- THE DISK IS SET AT ABOUT A 35-DEGREE ANGLE FROM THE HORIZONTAL. ROD WAS HELD ON THE HIGHEST POINT DURING THE 1954 RELEVELING.
