Here Friedrich Wilhelm I, the Soldier King, greeted in May 1732 expelled Protestants from Salzburg with the words: "Me new sons, you a mild fatherland." Most of the Salzburg Huguenots "(the Lutherans) were settled in East Prussia. The care, the proverbial tolerance of religious refugees and other migrants had of course to do with utilitarian considerations. People were the most important asset to the ravages of the Thirty Years War and later the plague.
