Kingsley Fairbridge was the founder of the Child Emigration Society in England and set up the Fairbridge Farm for under-priviledged children here in 1920 after settling 20km further south on unsuitable land in 1912. Kingsley Fairbridge and his wife Ruby arrived in Albany on April 15th 1912, from England and made their way to Pinjarra, arriving on 16 July to establish the world’s first Fairbridge Farm School. The school opened on 19 October 1912. From 1913 until 1982, Fairbridge Farm School assisted more than 3,500 children who came to Fairbridge under various child migration schemes.There is a memorial headstone outside the Fairbridge Chapel , but his actual grave is 200m to the east in the middle of a paddock under some trees
