The pub sign commemorates the 70th anniversary in 2013 of the famous Dam Busters raid.
Operation Chastise was an attack on German dams carried out on 16–17 May 1943 by Royal Air Force No. 617 Squadron, the "Dam Busters", led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson in a modified Lancaster,’ G for George’ using a specially developed "bouncing bomb" invented by Barnes Wallis.
The squadron was based at RAF Scampton which is in close proximity to the Inn.
