Dolmen D1 is a portal tomb . The dolmen is located on a slope of sand. The dolmen is well preserved and consists of 12 carrying stones , six cover stones and two keystones . The gate stones consist of two carrying stones and one capstone. The kerbstones are gone.
The dolmen is located in the village Steenbergen in the province of Drenthe. This dolmen is the northernmost in the province and has therefore been number one. The archaeologist Professor Albert van Giffen , who studied dolmens, she has numbered from north to south by province. The place Steenbergen is also named after these dolmens.
