Taken from Wikipedia, "Lincoln Park in San Francisco, California, was dedicated to President Abraham Lincoln in 1909 and includes about 100 acres (0.4 km2) of the northwestern corner of the San Francisco Peninsula.

The land on which Lincoln Park stands was a cemetery in use in the late 1860s and possibly earlier. In 1902, golf enthusiasts laid out a three-hole course on part of the land. In 1909, the Board of Supervisors turned the land over to the Parks Commission, and cemetery relocation began. The golf course expanded to 14 holes by 1914, then to a full 18 holes in 1917. During this period of development some 50 acres (200,000 m2) of the original tract were turned over to the federal government to be added to the neighboring Fort Miley Military Reservation.

The Lincoln Highway, with its western terminus at Lincoln Park, was conceived and mapped in 1913 as the first coast-to-coast road across America, traversing 14 states. The original western terminus marker of the highway was located at the north end of the plaza and fountain in front of the Legion of Honor. Today, a replica of the western terminus marker and an interpretive plaque are located at the southwest corner of the plaza, next to the bus stop. The replica marker was placed in 2002 during the revitalized Lincoln Highway Association's 10th Annual National Convention by the Association's California Chapter.

In 1923, the park was chosen as the site of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. The San Francisco Holocaust Memorial, designed by George Segal, was dedicated in the park in 1984.

Taken from the book, "In the extreme northwest corner of city and peninsula are the 270 green-lawned acres of city-owned LINCON PARK, facing seaward on the north and west, bounded on the east by Thirty-third Ave. and on the south by Clement St. and Fort Miley Reserve. The terrain slops gently to the south and east and drops abruptly to the sheer cliffs above the Golden Gate. El Camino del Mar winds the length of the park, at one point skirting high above the rugged rock-strewn shore."

Lincoln Park is one of the largest parks in the city. Originally, it was used for a large cemetery. An idea for a large golf course was made and so was the end of the cemetery. Many graves are scattered across the park, without headstones it's impossible to tell who they belong to. Lincoln Park is named after the Lincoln Highway, which has it's western terminus in the park at the American Legion Building.
