Also known as Hale Aloha Cemetery, the Holy Innocents Episcopal Cemetery contains the plots of early settlers on Maui who joined the Anglican Church after Hawaii’s Queen Emma requested England’s Queen Victoria to send a bishop to establish the Anglican Church in Hawaii.
Among the Earliest To Be Buried in Holy Innocents Church Cemetery:
Paul Nahaolelua (1806–1875) a Hawaiian chief
Henry Dickenson (1817-71) started one of the first sugar plantations
Rev. Cooper Searle (1820–1876) an Episcopalian Priest
Francis A. Oudinot (1817-71) grew the first cane plants brought from Marquesas Islands.
Kahi Maluhia (“place of peace”) Columbarium was dedicated as a community facility for use by people of all faiths in 1991, and is managed by the Vestry of Holy Innocents Church. Designed by Archhitect Uwe H. H. Schulz to reflect ancient Hawaiian concepts, Kahi Maluhia has a floating pavilion roof structure and the niches, which house individual ash repositories, are of solid bronze.
