Etched boulder memorializing Terry Fox, a 23 year old cancer survivor who set out on an ambitious goal to run across Canada from St John's NL to Victoria, BC in order to raise funding and awareness for cancer research.

Fox set out on April 12, 1980 and for the next 243 days ran the equivalent of a full marathon a day.He passed this spot on 5 July, 1980.
He finally stopped west of Thunder Bay, ON due to illness on 1 Sep, 1980, having covered 143 days and 5,373 kilometres.
Shortly thereafter, it was announced that his cancer had returned.
Fox succumbed to cancer on 26 July, 1981. His legacy continues, with annual Terry Fox runs held in Canada and around the world, To date, his dream has raised over 600 million dollars for cancer research.
