High atop a 13 story apartment building, this camera looks northeast and spies on the MacKay Bridge, known as the "New Bridge", and the ship traffic into Bedford Basin in North Halifax.
Nova Scotia Webcams has more than 70 live cameras broadcasting in HD quality 24/7 year-round. Some update quite frequently, on the order of every 3 to 5 seconds, while others stream live video. To visit a webcam one needs to stand in the field of view for only 10 to 20 seconds to be assured of being captured on several frames. Then, at the webcam's web page one may play back that day's video to capture their image. Playback occurs at the rate of about one frame per second or, in some cases, more. Alternatively, if your phone or tablet is in your hand and tuned to the webcam, a wait of only a few seconds at most is required before you'll appear on your screen.
MacKay Bridge
The A. Murray MacKay Bridge locally known as “the new bridge” is the second suspension bridge linking the Halifax Peninsula with Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and opened on July 10, 1970.
The A. Murray MacKay Bridge measures 1,200 m (3,900 ft) with the total of all suspended spans being 740 m (2,428 ft) in length, carrying four traffic lanes with posted speed limits of 70 kilometres per hour (43 mph). Pedestrians and bicycles are not permitted on this bridge.
The bridge is named after Alexander Murray MacKay, chairman of the Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission from 1951 to 1971 and past chief executive officer of MT&T.
