I found little information on Lew Wallace other than he was secretary of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce in 1908, he had at least two brothers, William Wallace and Edward H. Wallace, who was a revered banker of Long Beach, CA and died in 1922. Lew Wallace is also mentioned as president of First National Bank in Newport Beach in 1922. He was also a veteran of the Spanish American War. He's also responsible for helping to bring the first highway to the west coast in Orange County. He lived many years in Long Beach before settling down in Newport Beach. Lew Wallace is also known as the man who made Newport Beach a dry town. He was apparently a big man and regarded throughout Orange County as a man with great moral character.

I don't know anything about the history of this building, whether he built it himself or if it was named in his honor. The building is currently home to a couple of businesses and part of it looks empty.
Year built or dedicated as indicated on the structure or plaque: 1927
