Adenau bears the nickname "Johanniter city" because there Johanniter Commandery was founded in 1162, one of the oldest Johanniter Commanderys. The Commandery was with the spiritual order of knights of Johanniter an office, primarily responsible as an administrative unit for the management of their property, but there was also room for hospitality to poor pilgrims and traveling Medal relatives. Today the building serves as a meeting place. "
