QE1254 - OSHD RIVET 8 - Oregon - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

This Oregon State Highway Dept. rivet was probably set about 1933 as a preliminary leveling point prior to setting the cap for QE1255. It is located at the southwest corner of the bridge. QE1255 was placed at the northeast corner of this bridge but is now covered by a newer guardrail post.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1988 RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. A NEW DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS. 25.1 KM (15.60 MI) SOUTHERLY ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 101 FROM ITS JUNCTION WITH STATE HIGHWAY 34 IN WALDPORT, IN THE SOUTHWEST ABUTMENT WALKWAY OF A HIGHWAY BRIDGE SPANNING TENMILE CREEK, 6.3 M (20.7 FT) WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, AND 0.9 M (3.0 FT) NORTH OF THE SOUTH END OF THE WALKWAY. NOTE--THE BRIDGE ABUTMENT IS RESTING ON BEDROCK. THE MARK IS 0.3 M ABOVE THE HIGHWAY.
