On the northeast corner of the war monument. On what I suspect was originally the concrete corner stone for the swing bridge retaining wall. Bolt in northeast face with BM MMXLIV etched in stone.

The marker was originally published by Public Works Canada on what was originally the Galop Canal structure. The survey marker has gone "unpublished".
Present day, the BM and stone are part of the war monument in Cardinal Ontario.

I haven't been able to confirm the date of the memorial but I suspect it was after the construction of the St Lawrence Seaway (1959) and when the Galop Canal was partially filled in at Cardinal.
"The canal was originally built in 1846 at 9 feet deep with 200 foot locks. In 1898 it was enlarged to 14 foot depth and the locks extended to 270 feet. In 1958 it was closed and partially inundated with the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway." (
