In Keene, in the Woodland Cemetery, Northeast Division, is this zinc monument for the Bissell family.
The monument is located on the connecting road from the Woodland Cemetery, Northeast Division and Woodland Cemetery, on the north side.
The monument is about six feet tall and has four faces. On one side of the base is the name, Bissell. Plaques are attached on each face. At the top is a form like an urn.
On one face is the following:
"Emerson E.
Bissell
Co. E. 53rd Mass. Inf.
1823-1918.
--
Sarah S
Merrifield,
His Wife.
1831 - 1919."
On another is the following:
"Elrose A.
Son of
E.E. & S.S.
Bissell
Died
Sept. 15, 1876.
Age 19 yrs, 9 mos, 11 days.
'I am ready and waiting'"
Another plaque reads:
"Chauncey B.
Bissell.
Died
Jan. 20, 1909,
Aged 81 years
and 10 Days,
at rest."
On another side is a relief of a flower, possibly a lily.
