The seal is a representation of one of the major animals that can be viewed up and down the California Coast. The statue is in the center of the park, at the base is a dedication plaque of the park from 1984 the same year the olympics were happening only 20 miles away. The seal seems to be to scale and life size. It's facing north, towards LAX and seems to be made of bronze, although no plaque indicated as such.
