This station, A Pinellas County Engineering Department disk, is located in the Beach section of St. Petersburg, FL. It is set in a concrete post per the description below:
AT ST PETERSBURG BCH.
TO REACH STATION FROM THE INTERSECTION OF S.R. 690 (75TH AVE.)
AND GULF BLVD. (S.R. 699 AND/OR 5TH STREET), RUN SOUTHERLY ALONG
GULF BLVD. FOR 1.45 MILE TO THE STATION ON LEFT, THE MARK IS LOCATED SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF VILLAGE INN RESTAURANT, 4945 GULF BLVD., 68.5 FT. SOUTH OF A CONCRETE POWER POLE (NO NUMBER), IT IS 1.7FT EAST OF THE BACK OF 5FT CONCRETE SIDEWALK, 40.0 FT. EAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF GULF BLVD., 4.4FT NORTHWEST OF CONCRETE POWER POLE NUMBER B116186, AND SET IN TOP OF A CONCRETE POST THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND.
A few notes here:
-The description above is a mashup of all the past notes in the NGS published datasheet. With the exception of the restaurant name, it is as up to date as can be.
-The NGS published coordinates are adjusted, and therefore used in this posting.
-The restaurant in the description, at 4945 Gulf Blvd, is now called the Selene.
-The mark is now about 2-in below ground surface. At the time of recovery, I was able to locate the mark with my GPS, and noticed that the sod was cut over the mark, making it easy to lift the grass 'cork' away, and with a little digging, exposed the mark. After the recovery, I simply put the grass 'cork' back in place. A fun find, indeed.
