A lonely monocular seems to protect the entrance to Puget Sound and the prime access to the ports of Seattle, Everett, and Tacoma. This importance was not lost on the military of the early 20th century that founded and developed a ring of forts at this point. One of these was Fort Worden where this monocular now resides. Today you can spot passing ships and look for marine life swimming by.
