The Queenscliff Lighthouse is the only black lighthouse in the Southern Hemisphere, being unpainted bluestone quarried in Melbourne and brought across Port Phillip Bay by barge.
The 25m tower was built in 1862 to replace an earlier underpowered 1843 tower, the lamp gives a continuous white light, Originally kerosene the light was converted to gas in 1890 and to electricity in 1924.
