The East Avenue Historic District Waymark has a complete list of all the addresses in the historic Distric from the NRHP nomination form (see Waymark link below). The relevant portion is "East Ave, south: #421 to #1563, excluding #441, #657, #809, #1077" Although 1005 East avenue falls within that range, the nominating form did not detail every mansion in the district! And it contained nothing about this building.

The only description of this address I've found is this fro Paul Malo's 1975 "Landmarks of Rochester and Monroe County: a Guide to Neighborhoods and Villages" on page 72:

"The fine copper beach in front of the house at Number 1005 East Avenue was planted in 1870. The house itself was built five years earlier in the Italianate style. The interiors were altered in later years by J. Foster Warner and others, and they represented the best work of their periods. This property is perhaps best known for the Spencer Gardens (Plate 36), which are outstanding from aspects both of horticulture and of design. One flower, among many others, was the special subject of the late Mrs. SPencer, who re-created here a living history of the Rose. The maintenance and preservation of gardens is a particular problem, but these, which have been created and cared for with so much devotion over the years, should be regarded as one of the exceptional accomplishments of a community well known for its parks, gardens, and nurseries."
