"Dans la partie sud-ouest, près de Rambouillet, le 15 Août 1944 à midi, le village de Clairefontaine a regardé une bataille aérienne intense entre un escadron d'American chasseurs-bombardiers P47 et six chasseurs Luftwaffe Focke Wulf 190S avoir lieu au-dessus de leurs têtes. Au cours de cette bataille, quatre avions allemands sont abattus. Trois avions américains ont été perdus. L'un d'eux est écrasé près de Clairefontaine, son pilote, le chef d'escadron capitaine Everett G. King, bien qu'il ai réussi à s'éjecter de son avion, a été tué lors de l'impact avec le sol." (

Sur la pelouse en face de la mairie , sur la droite du monument aux morts de la ville (comme vous faites face à l'immeuble). Le monument est gravé à la feuille d'or en français sur du marbre blanc en forme de pierre tombale. L'insigne de l' Armée de l'Air 9 est gravée au sommet. (

(EN) "In south-western part, near Rambouillet, August 15, 1944 at noon, the Village of Clairefontaine watched as an intense air battle between a squadron of American fighter-bombers P47 and six Luftwaffe fighter Focke Wulf 190s took place above their heads. During this battle, four German planes are shot down. Three American aircraft were lost. One of them crashed near Clairefontaine, his pilot, Squadron Leader Captain Everett G. King, although he managed to eject from his plane, was killed upon impact with the ground." (
