As a western character actor, Buck Taylor is best remembered for his eight seasons (1967-1975) as gunsmith Newly O’Brien on the classic series "Gunsmoke". He studied art on a scholarship while in college and is an accomplished western artist who explores America’s Old West, and puts it on canvas. He received the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s Wrangler award the in 1972 and the National Festival of the West award in 1998. He’s been inducted into the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum as a trustee, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame (2007) and received a plaque on the Walk of Western Stars in Santa Clarita, California.
