The Town:

Rünenberg is a municipality in the district Sissach in the canton of Basel-Country with about 780 residents.

Rünenberg was first documented in 1102. In the Middle Ages, it belonged to the Bishop of Basel, in 1392 it came as a fief of Thierstein, and in 1461, in the possession of the city of Basel. In 1798, it became part of the district Sissach.

Rünenberg is primarily known as the home town of Johann August Suter, who became famous in the mid-19th century as the "Emperor of California".

The Town Hall:

The town hall of Rünenberg is located in a two-story building in the village center. The house has a hipped roof with a turret and is likely to have been built in the mid-19th century as a school.

Rünenberg ist eine Gemeinde im Bezirk Sissach im Kanton Basel-Landschaft mit etwa 780 Einwohnern.

Rünenberg wurde 1102 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Im Mittelalter gehörte dem Bischof von Basel, 1392 kam es als Lehen von Thierstein und gelangte 1461 in den Besitz der Stadt Basel. 1798 wurde es Teil des Bezirks Sissach.

Rünenberg ist vor allem bekannt als Heimatort von Johann August Suter, der in der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts als "Kaiser von Kalifornien" berühmt wurde.

Das Gemeindehaus:

Das Gemeindehaus von Rünenberg befindet sich in einem zweistöckigen Gebäude im Dorfzentrum. Das Haus hat ein Walmdach mit einem Dachreiter und dürfte in der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts als Schule gebaut worden sein.
