This former Sinclair Service Station, first opened in 1936 as a road house & converted to a service station in 1939, standing alongside the Mother Road. The Route 66 iconic Sinclair Service Station, is often referred to by locals as Kupka's Service Station.
The wood & stucco, built service station is typical of the Sinclair Petroleum service station designs, but with more castellation's.
The service station was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 9, 1995.
The former gas station is now used as a Tire & Truck service station.
From the Roadside Architecture website:
"Canute was bypassed by I-40 to the north in May, 1970 and immediately went into a decline.
The rooftop and canopy details are a little more castle-like than the standard design. I don't know if this was original or added late"
