In the North Kingstown village of Wickford is the Hussey Bridge that carries Route 102 over an inlet to Wickford Harbor.
The bridge is located on Boston Neck Road, a main road to the village. Parking is available nearby, though it may be scarce at times.
The bridge a reinforced concrete structure with arches on each side, with a cross beam spanning between them. Steel rods drop from the arch to the road deck. Diagonally placed rods provide bracing.
The bridge is named after Clarence Hussey. He was Rhode Island's first bridge engineer. Hussey is well known for both his designs, often using creative concrete formulas, and for his meticulous inventory of Rhode Islands bridges. This bridge was his last - he died at the age of 42 before this bridge was finished. The state of Rhode Island changed the name to the Clarence Hussey Memorial Bridge in his honor.
As of April 1, 2016, the bridge is closed for months of restoration work.
