Taking a stroll around Tempe’s pedestrian-friendly downtown is always a pleasure, made more so by the many public art pieces sprinkled among the restaurants, shops and businesses along Mill Avenue and the adjacent streets and Tempe Town Lake.

On December 8, one of the first Art Wraps in Mesa was unveiled at the corner of Dobson and Main. The Art Wrap project is an outdoor display of art highlighting donated works by local artists.

"I am excited to see public art working its way down Main Street," said Councilmember Richins about this unique effort. "A big thanks to the local artists who donated their work to the project."

This display called "Talking to the Stars" by artist Quetzal Guerrero, beautifully wraps an otherwise plain traffic control box. Guerrero describes this piece as, "My grandfather's quest to contact the ancestors buried underneath the city."
"I superimpose the ancient over the contemporary in order to express images and metaphors that transcend space and time."
"It is important that we not forget our roots and history in this beautiful valley, as well as the lands and people of the Southwest."
