Die Andreaskapelle ist eine der ältesten Kirchen Sachsens (laut wikipedia sogar der "älteste erhaltene kirchliche Raum auf sächsischem Boden"). Die Entstehungszeit der Kirche bzw. deren ältester Teile wird auf das 11. Jahrhundert datiert. Damals war die Rundkapelle, welche sich im heutigen Turm befindet, ein Sakralbau eines befestigten Hofes aus der Zeit von Wiprecht von Groitzsch (1050-1124).
Die Andreaskirche ist im Inneren zweigeteilt. Während das Kirchenschiff als Gemeindesaal dient, befindet sich im Turm die historische Kapelle aus dem Mittelalter. Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts wurde die Kirche erstmals so umgebaut, dass die Rundkapelle und das Kirchenschiff eine Einheit bildeten. So wurde mehr Platz für die Gemeinde geschaffen. Diese Baumaßnahme wurde gegen Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts wieder rückgängig gemacht, womit die Andreaskapelle ihre heutige Form erhielt.

The 'Andreaskapelle' is one of the oldest churches in Saxony (according to wikipedia even the "oldest surviving church interior in Saxony"). The date of the origin of the oldest parts of the church dates back to the 11th century. At that time the round chapel, which is located in the tower, was a sacred building of a fortified farm from the time of 'Wiprecht von Groitzsch' (1050-1124).
Inside the 'Andreskapelle' is divided into two parts. While the nave serves as a community hall, the historic chapel from the Middle Ages is located in the tower. At the end of the 15th century, the church was modified for the first time so that the round chapel and the nave formed a unity. In the church was now more space for the community. This construction project was reversed at the end of the 20th century and the 'Andreaskapelle' become its present form.
