Hawk Point in Lincoln County is the only town in the United States with the name. Long before the early settlers came, the prairie hawks roosted there in a point of the woods where the timber left off and open rolling hills began.

"The City of Hawk Point is a Fourth Class city located in the western part of Lincoln County which is the fastest growing county in the state of Missouri.. The City of Hawk Point sits at the crossroads of Highway 47 connecting us to the west of Troy and to the north of Warrenton. As of the 2010 census the city had a population of 669 people. Hawk Point has an Elementary School in town with 129 students in grades K - 5th. They have recently added updates of a new gymnasium and library.

"The Board of Aldermen meet on the 1st Monday of the Month at 6:00PM at the new "Hawk Point Civic Center", formally the old Kemper-Marsh Funeral Home. The public is welcome to attend. "A postal town in the southwest part of Bedford Township. It was so named because the location was formerly a place where hawks roosted. Many years ago there was a country store and post office at the place called Hawk Point. When the Burlington Railroad came in 1904, the name was still retained for the town. "At Hawk Point, for which it is named. Originally it was Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in the southwest part of Bedford Township, but it was later moved to Hawk Point. Mt. Gilead was probably formed about 1886 and made up in part of the membership which originally comprised the Cottonwood Baptist Church in the northern part of Hawk Point Township. Cottonwood Baptist Church was organized in 1852 and disbanded before 1886. It was named for Cottonwood Spring. Mt. Gilead is a Bible name the scene of the covenant between Laban and Jacob.
