With the aid of Jackson's photographs and the memory of his own impressions, he created several sketches of the view before returning to New York. In a studio in Newark, New Jersey he completed the painting. His memory had retained all the colors of the setting, and his sketches captured the look and textures of the area. He completed the painting in two months, and then exhibited it in a grand showing at Clinton Hall in New York City.
Moran's Point is a cliff on the nouth rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone due west of Yellowstone Falls on the Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park.
From Moran's Point look east.
Yellowstone had such a significant impact on Moran that he adopted the signature T-Y-M, Thomas “Yellowstone” Moran.
The government purchased Moran’s first large painting, The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, in 1872 for $10,000.
