Tartar Cemetery is an old, long inactive cemetery of about forty-four burials, today occupying a small section of historic Elmwood Cemetery, Bowie, TX.

The cemetery was moved to Elmwood Cemetery in 1981. It is separated from Elmwood by posts with plastic chain links -- the rear of the cemetery is wide open, probably for maintenance -- and at the front entry, there is a red granite monument that provides some background:

To preserve the history of these pioneer people, the Tartar Cemetery was moved from it's [sic] original location in 1981 to make way for the Amon Carter Lake expansion project.
