Historic Interest -
Also listed at 49 & 51 Carr St (1871) & 43a Carr st in 1912-22. A report in the Bury & Norwich Post** on Dec-28 in 1838 states that the pub was sold to Mr Bristo as part of the Samuel Alexander's Brewery sale, the Salutation selling at £710. This premises was listed in the 1844 Whites Directory with carriers operating from the inn to Norwich. A report in the Suffolk Chronicle*** on Jan-07 in 1860 revealed that : "Mr STANNARD of The Salutation, Carr Street, Ipswich (was called as a witness in a theft case). The recorder summed up & Thomas Millar, 38, a tailor was found guilty with inference that Mr Stannard had committed purgery & that he trusted the licensing authorities would consider the case." Nine lodgers listed in 1871 census."
