The church has a rectangular floor plan and a roof turret with a pointed roof over the entrance.

The current church building emerged from a medieval chapel, which was first mentioned in the 12th century. With the Reformation in 1529, it became the property of the city of Basel. In 1537 a pulpit was installed and in the 17th and 18th centuries it was rebuilt and enlarged several times. Despite the subsequent changes, the medieval character of the church is still well preserved.
