EN: The inventor and aviation pioneer Jakob Degen was born in this house in Liedertswil, probably 1760 (1756 and 1761 are also indicated). A plaque above the entrance recalls the most famous citizens of this small village.

Jakob Degen migrated to Austria with his parents in 1772, where he later worked as a weaver and as a watchmaker.

He made some inventions that are still today used to some extent in weaving and watch factories. From 1808, he began to work with flying machines. He made attempts to fly with an ornithopter that was supported by a balloon. This equipment has been publicly demonstrated in Vienna and Paris several times, he stayed in the air up to an hour. In 1816, he developed the first working model of a helicopter. Then he invented a printing technology for banknotes, that increased protection against forgery. This guilloche engraving was soon taken over by the Austrian National Bank and is still used today in some countries. From 1825 to 1842, Degen worked for the Austrian National Bank. In 1848, he died in Vienna.

Jakob Degen wanderte 1772 mit seinen Eltern nach Österreich aus, wo er als Bandweber und später als Uhrmacher arbeitete.

Er machte einige Erfindungen, die zum Teil noch heute in Webmaschinen und Uhrenfabriken eingesetzt werden. Ab 1808 beschäftigte er sich auch mit dem Fliegen. Er machte Flugversuche mit einem Ornithopter der von einem Ballon unterstützt wurde. Dieses Gerät wurde mehrmals in Wien und Paris öffentlich demonstriert, wobei er bis zu einer Stunde in der Luft blieb. 1816 entwickelte er das erste funktionierende Hubschraubermodell. Danach erfand er eine Drucktechnik für Banknoten, die die Fälschungssicherheit erhöhte. Diese Guillochen-Gravierund wurde bald von der österreichischen Nationalbank übernommen und wird auch heute noch in verschiedenen Ländern verwendet. Von 1825 bis 1842 arbeitete Degen für die österreichische Nationalbank. 1848 starb er in Wien.
