A Strategic Air Command base from 1939 (WWII) until its closure in 2001. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is in Sacramento County, north of the city.

Some of that includes the early architecture of the base housing.
The base functioned as a supply and repair, and overhaul of aircraft. They also had a weather reconnaissance squadron
The base was named for Hezekiah McClellan, a pioneer flight test pilot.
The Coast Guard maintains airspace here. There is an aeronautical museum.

General Comments:
It is currently housing for other Federal agencies, and a conference center.
