This library was once a fire house. The arched doorways of today were once the bays for fire engines.

The San Francisco Guide says:
The PUBLIC LIBRARY and CITY HALL, Jefferson Ave. and Middlefield Rd., are a well- proportioned group of buildings employing concrete with red-tiled roofs in a severe modern style.
Today the library probably looks the same as 1940. With its yellow brick sides and red tiled roof, it has a classic old architecture.

The library can be seen in Google Street View.
