A native of New York, William Rockefeller along with his older brother John D. Rockefeller founded Standard Oil Company, one of the most successful and recognized company’s in the world. William used his Oil profits to invest in several other interests including copper mining, railroads, and public utilities. William and Henry Rogers combined to form Amalgamated Copper Mining Company and through a few deceptive practices the partners established several paper companies that allowed them to absorb their largest competitors and become the 4th largest company in the world. William Rockefeller died on June 224, 1922 from complication of pneumonia. He is entombed at the private Rockefeller mausoleum at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, New York.

William Rockefeller was born on May 31, 1841 in Richford, New York. William was a smart child and early on was recognized for having a head for business. In 1865 he entered the oil business by starting a refinery, and two years later his older brother, John D. Rockefeller absorbed the refinery. Two years later, the company became Standard Oil. William served as Standard Oil’s New York Representative until 1911 when Standard Oil of New Jersey was ordered split by the U. S. Supreme Court. Over the years Williams had invested in copper, the railroad industry and public utilities. He also was heavily involved in the National City Bank of New York. With the help of Henry Rogers, Williams formed the Amalgamated Copper Mining Company and through a series of deceptive scheme’s the two were able to set up several paper companies and over the years Amalgamated Copper was able to acquire their largest competitors, becoming the 4th largest company in the world. William and John became two of the wealthiest men in the United States and made the Rockefeller name one of the most recognized names in the World. William Rockefeller contacted pneumonia and died on June 24, 1922. He is entombed in the Rockefeller Mausoleum in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, New York.
