The following information is from his Florida Times-Union obituary:

"VARNER Gary L. Varner, age 57, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 23, 2012 in Gainesville, FL after a brief long battle with Leukemia. Gary was born August 15, 1954 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Charles and Mabel (McKinley) Varner. Gary was a veteran of the United States Army and was employed for 30 years for Norfolk Southern Railway. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Jerry Varner and Charles Varner. Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years Regina Varner, one son Travis Varner (Dana); two daughters April Hare (Ryan) and Jennifer England (William); four brothers Danny Varner (Shelby), Jack Varner (Beverly), Mike Varner (Annette), Dale Varner (Beverly); three sisters Sharon Kirby (Charlie), Connie Sweat (Mike), and Angela Fitzgerald (Darvin); three grandchildren Seth Hare, Titus Hare, and Natalie Varner; mother-in-law Anna Roberts; Sister-in-law Carolyn Wade (David); and a host of nieces, nephews, church family, and many friends. A Visitation is scheduled 5:00- 7:00 pm, Wednesday, April 25, 2012, 103rd Street Church of God, 10356 103rd Street, Jacksonville, FL. Funeral Service will be 7:00 pm at the church. Graveside Services will be held 10:00 am, Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting contributions to be given in Gary's honor to Shand's Leukemia Research, 1600 SW Archway Road, Gainesville, FL 32608 or St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis Tennessee 38105. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, and (904)781-9262."
